Styles of Communication
Aggressive communication
People often confuse assertiveness with aggression, because it involves sticking up for yourself. But the 2 are actually quite different.
Aggressive communication can prevent you from having solid friendships.
Why? because no one enjoys the company of someone who constantly judges, argues, disagrees, and doesn’t allow others to share their opinions.
Passive communication
Passive communication may lead to feelings of being misunderstood and misheard. You may feel like no one truly listens to you or values your input.
Passive communication can be damaging to your self-esteem, and also to relationships.
If you use a passive communication style, others are more likely to ignore your needs, which may leave you feeling hurt or even angry with them for not treating you better.
Assertive communication is a way of communicating feelings, thoughts and beliefs in an open, honest manner without violating the rights of others.
